Ruffy and the Riverside is a charming open-world action-adventure game with 3D platformer and puzzle-solving elements, developed by Zockrates Laboratories. Players control Ruffy, our young, bear hero adventurer, in a beautifully hand-drawn world filled with lush forests, rivers, and mystical landscapes. The game’s standout feature is its innovative "SWAP" mechanic, allowing Ruffy to copy and paste textures from the environment to manipulate objects, solve intricate puzzles, and unlock new paths. For example, players can apply a stone texture to a wooden bridge to make it sturdy or use a glowing texture to light up dark areas.
The story follows Ruffy as they explore the Riverside, a dynamic world inhabited by quirky characters and hidden secrets. The narrative is lighthearted yet engaging, focusing on exploration, discovery, and overcoming environmental challenges. Players collect items, interact with NPCs, and navigate platforming sections that require creative use of the SWAP mechanic. The game emphasizes a structured, story-driven experience with a fixed world design, distinct from procedurally generated roguelites.
