I am completely smitten by the HTC Vive VR system. This is the virtual reality that I was promised when I was a kid, in films like 'Lawnmower Man' and 'Johnny Mnemonic'. The experience of walking around a virtual space is difficult to put into words, but it's basically just like you are there, and it's incredibly immersive.

There are a few demos around already, but none yet that simulate shooting guns. I'm a pc gamer, so I want to shoot guns. In particular, I wanted to shoot guns by aiming down the sights - ie much more like my experiences of firing real guns, and nothing at all like firing guns in videogames.

So I made this prototype in Unity. It's surprisingly hard to hit anything beyond about 10 metres, which roughly corresponds to my experiences with the real thing. This was a lot of fun to play with, and quite unlike any other gaming experiences I've had for a while.

I'm thinking about a katana next.
