The 13-year-old player also assisted in his team's 6th goal after he was included in the game. Atherton, who appeared in the match at the age of 13 years and 329 days, became the youngest football player in England. The record in this field was previously held by Jordan Allan, who played for the Scottish team Airdrie when he was 14 years and 191 days old.

Christopher Atherton, England's youngest player, missed the title of the world's youngest player by 10 days. The world record in this field belongs to Souleymane Mamam, who played for Togo at the age of 13 years and 319 days in the World Cup Qualifiers against Zambia in May 2001.
