This battle theme gets a lot of bad rap as it probably plays a lot throughout the game's fights and has a non-standard timing and structure but if you can find the rhythm and beat to it, it is one of my favourites due to this.

Starting off with 6/4 in the intro, onto 9/4 in the main centre bulk of the track, finishing off with some 4/4 back into 6/4 before the loop. I think Yasunori Mitsuda really pulled it off here, matching that completely unique gameplay to Chrono Cross at the time on the PS1.

I decided to try and bring this back to a NES-style, using just three channels in FamiTracker as I thought it would be a good fit and it absolutely did not disappoint. The lack of percussion really adds to the feel, where I was going for something that you'd find in the earlier Final Fantasy games of the series (first and second ones particularly). The lead and rhythm sections do more than enough to carry this track through until the end.
