3This is my favorite JRPG for quite a few reasons. Most entries in the genre I find incredibly tedious. Not this one. - No random encounters! - The player can avoid most battles. - The battles that do happen are brief outside of boss battles, which are only a bit longer. - There is no real grinding in this game. - Only significant stat boosts come from defeating bosses. - That makes the game more intelligent than most JRPGs as victory must be won through skill, not over-leveling. And that's just what makes it a less tedious experience. What sets it apart and makes it great? - 45 different companions, each with their own unique personality and history, that the player can recruit. - Characters' magic can be customized to a high degree through *Element* allocation. - The soundtrack is probably the most beautiful found in video games. - The writing is humorous, profound, and engaging.
