Recap: At the center of the Dead Sea, Serge chases after ghosts. They reach an archway with a fallen bell, with a plaque identifying it as Nadia's Bell, from 1000 AD. The ghosts of Crono, Marle, and Lucca are hanging around, and they say that although they worked hard to save the future, it was all in vain, because Serge has caused it to be destroyed. A man approaches, identifying himself as Miguel, Serge's father Wazuki's friend. The three of them had come to the Sea of Eden 14 years ago, with Wazuki carrying a dying Serge in a hidden temple. 4 years later, an incident transformed it into the Dead Sea.

Miguel says that the current form of the Dead Sea represents a future that was eliminated. A force he calls "Fate" still holds it together in its current form, and he challenges them to a fight, saying that defeating him will collapse the dimensional distortion. They do as requested, and before the eliminated future dissipates, Miguel tells that three years ago, knights from the Acacia Dragoons came seeking the Frozen Flame, and were killed. Fate didn't want the Frozen Flame awakened at that place at that time, and would choose to destroy the Flame along with the whole Dead Sea rather than allow its enemies to take hold of the Flame. Only Serge, the chosen one, can awaken the flame.

Serge's party tries to flee the collapsing dimension, and right when it looks like they won't be able to escape in time, the Sky Dragon swoops down and carries them out. The dimensional distortion at Opassa Beach is reopened, allowing Serge to return to Kid's timeline. In the time he had been gone, most of his previous allies had returned to their homes, seemingly having forgotten the events that took place. Lynx, still using Serge's body and identity, has made quite a name for himself and caused all of Arni village to shelter in place and refuse entry to outsiders.

Also, Van, Zappa, and Funguy get to meet their alternate selves in Termina, and are surprisingly unfazed about the experience. Skelly's last bone is found, and he reassembles himself fully and leaves the party's inventory.
