I forgot to mention one more thing
Time Travel. "A Link to the Past" game had that. Because people will argue going back and forth was a new thing (While A Link to the Past is more about worlds, its still the concept it did first). Final Fantasy 1 had some time travel plot to it, though it was more in context to the game plot itself. "Kokotoni Wilf" a 1984 game and "Adventure in Time" 1981 game also had that as a thing.

edit: Also one more thing too. Others have said Chrono Trigger introduced "New Game Plus" which means you get to keep everything you had and play the game again, as in new game. Well turns out Zelda 2 NES game did that too. An older game. When you beat it, you get to keep your spells and play the game again. So again, Chrono Trigger did nothing new that older games has done
