CiB Game Boy Theater - Word Zap and Balloon Kid (Episode 48)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
Let's see here, 'Word Zap'. I bet this is anything BUT a puzzle game.... it's a puzzle game. Truthfully, this is a pretty cool puzzle game. I feel like the type of puzzle this is has a specific name, but I have no idea. Definitely a timeless one in that it'll always be a nice, chill, passtime kinda game. Definitely one of my favorite puzzle games that I've played so far on Game Boy. Yay!
Balloon Kid - pretty much what I expected, here. It's really not a bad side-scroller, but a lot of people will be annoyed with the fact that it is always an auto-scroller. REALLY surprised that it's made by Nintendo R&D1. I have honestly never heard of this game before, which is really, really surprising for a Nintendo-made game. The sequel to Balloon Fight is a pretty nice, simple side-scrolling romp. I could see myself playing this a bit.
Wait a minute... did we just have an episode of Game Boy Theater where I kinda liked BOTH games? Is this an indication of good things to come, or have we used up all of our good luck in one go? Find out soon...
