CiB Game Boy Theater - Bo Jackson 2-in-1 and Micro Machines (Episode 46)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
Aww heck yeah, Bo Jackson's 2-in-1. Two games in one! It's gotta be like, double the value. Okay, yeah I don't know what I was thinking. The football game is the quintessential 'what am I DOING here?' game. I mean just look at it. What am I doing? How do I play this game? Lol, NEXT!
The baseball game at least looks better. Like, I can tell what it is supposed to be, and the presentation is nice. It's a serviceable baseball game, but dang is it hard to pitch strikes, and dang is it hard to tell exactly what the timing is on hitting. I re-watched the home run (lol) I hit, and it looks like I swung way too early, but apparently it was perfectly straight to center field. Lol I dunno. NEXT!
Micro Machines is a very well-loved NES game --- how does the Game Boy port fare? First of all, I will say that I don't know if this is a straight port - I've never played the NES one. I will say, however, that it's a pretty fun game, and exactly what you would expect from a Game Boy racing game. It has some variety in characters, decent variety in track styles, easy to pick up, etc. It is, of course, a hard game. Not coming in first after like 4 tries in the first track sounds like a very Game Boy thing to do. Overall, this is definitely in the top 20% of games we've played so far.... probably top 10%, considering all the stinkers. Thanks for watching!
