Civilization 7 brings bold changes to the long-standing franchise, introducing innovations like separating leaders from civilizations, era-specific civilizations, and automated city management. The game also adds new systems such as crises at the end of eras and customizable leader traits through Mementos. Visually, the game is a step forward, and the core "one more turn" appeal remains intact.
However, the game feels unpolished, with significant balancing issues and questionable design choices. The removal of core mechanics like worker units, the limitations on map sizes, and the simplification of certain systems (e.g., religion and diplomacy) may alienate longtime fans. Additionally, era resets and some new features, like crises, feel underdeveloped, making the experience feel more like an Early Access title than a polished sequel.
