Civilization VI 4K DX11 and DX12 Game and AI Benchmarks
Benchmarking one of the most well-known RTS style games in its latest world-spanning endeavor - it's Sid Meier's Civilization VI!
Not the biggest RTS fan but the gameplay and style of these games is always pretty neat to see in action. Civ VI is well known for its fantastic music and competitive battles. The game has two benchmarks without any DLC content added in - the Gameplay Benchmark and the AI Benchmark which calculate frametime and performance in the first, and turn-time in the second for AI moves.
Overall, both DirectX 11 and 12 perform similarly and both are easily playable at 1080p to 4K on a modern system. While I found the disparity between 99th Percentile and average frametimes being more broadly spaced in DX11, they also take a small 1-2ms penalty under DX12. Both AI benchmarks appear to be identical. This is again shown simply because I am also using Shadowplay to capture both benchmarks, which one of them is strictly GPU. Thus this influences the stair-stepping result on video but is far less evident in actual gameplay. Since I'm generally above 60 FPS in both modes at max, I'd presume I'd just turn VSync on and call it a day.
Even with a 200% upscale in menus though for the UI, it is still pretty tiny for me to see but at least the game offers a scaling option.
