The Phresh Ninja has recorded new gameplay of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This video game is a huge hit from a relatively small studio. All of the next-gen bells and whistles are implemented. In this video the Phresh Ninja has cranked all of the settings to maximum and epic presets. He has skipped showing the entire intro prologue that runs for more than one hour and has included about 40 minutes of gameplay. Cutscenes run at 30 fps and gameplay runs at a buttery smooth 60 fps. The story is engaging, featuring much emotion, mysterious forces as well as some stylish European designs. He has stated that the graphics are amazing and it is very cutscene heavy which reminds him of the later Metal Gear Solid games in that series. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a 2025 turn-based role-playing video game developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive. Taking place in a dark fantasy Belle Époque setting, the game follows the volunteers of Expedition 33 who set out to destroy the Paintress, a being causing the yearly Gommage where people above an ever-decreasing age perish.
The developers sought to create a high-fidelity turn-based RPG, which they felt had been neglected by AAA game developers, and took inspiration from Japanese RPGs such as the Final Fantasy and Persona series. Development began with Unreal Engine 4 but later switched to Unreal Engine 5, providing various rendering improvements.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S on 24 April 2025. The game received universal acclaim, with critics praising the presentation, visuals, narrative, emotional weight, and vocal performances, and sold 1 million units within 3 days of release.
