Final Fantasy XI Classic Server on the Eden Server in 2022 !!!
I've been prepping for future streams as I move to full time here on YouTube and one of the MMOs I want to put into rotation is Final Fantasy XI in 2022, this classic MMORPG is one that sticks with me as a world I love to be in and I love the challenge and the lore and the unlocking of new classes and the huge open, non-instanced dungeons and gameplay. But I want to play it as it was meant to be : Difficult, working together as a party to overcome the many challenges Final Fantasy XI has as an MMO. So, I decided to kick up a toon on the Eden Server and get myself to level 10ish before I start streaming, and I have to say, the Eden server is easy to install and get playing, and although it isn't a PERFECT replica of the classic version of Final Fantasy XI, what Eden does do, is make you FEEL like you did back when Final Fantasy XI launched in 2002. It's hard, it's unforgiving, you can de-level, you will get your face melted by even matched mobs on your first class on your toon, and it is active too. I saw many people running around even in the low level areas.
So let's talk about what Eden is as a private server for Final Fantasy XI. It basically was made to represent Final Fantasy XI during the Treasures of Aht Urhgan era with some quality of life they felt was necessary. But overall, the Eden server replicates that classic feel very close and this is due to their attention to small details like mob behavior, damage calculations, and magic hit rates, this means that during battle it feels like it used to back then.
Now if you have never played Final Fantasy XI, let me start with saying that it is a hardcore MMO and extremely unique in almost everything it does, but still with the same flavor of EverQuest or other "golden era" MMORPGs of yesteryear. All the glory is here, but you may find it with a different name or being referred to with different terms. Most of it will still feel at home, such as calling groups parties, or White Mages committing Benecide, which just means they use their Benediction ability to gather so much hate that the mob beats them to death, or Wizards being called Black Mages, or the way Chain Casting works or Chain pulling for bonus xp, or the interesting Conquest Point system which is kind of a PvE competition between the starting city nations, or instead of calling it a DPS, Final Fantasy XI players insist they are a DD or Damage Dealer, NM actually standing for Notorious Monster not Named Mob but kinda the same thing, and so many more that I can't think of, but it all boils down to this: Some developers at Square-Enix wanted to make an MMORPG like EverQuest but themed in the Final Fantasy universe and so they played a TON of EverQuest and researched it to death and came up with this breathtaking MMO.
