In this Lecture we discussed the classification of enzymes according to international union of Biochemistry and molecular biology (IUBMB).
Enzymes are classified either on the basis of substrate or on the basis of type of reaction. In this enzymes classification part 1 we discussed the classification of enzymes on the basis type of reaction they catalyze.
There are 7 total groups according to reaction, and the seventh one was added in August 2018 .
The mnemonic for this classification is OTHLILT.
These groups are
Oxidoreductases
Transferases
Hydrolases
Lyases
Isomerases
Ligases
And Translocases.
We discussed all these groups in details.
