Co-Op Netplay Session #1: The Combatribes (SNES)
The streets of New York City are infested with thugs and punks under the leadership of the ex-military cyborg Martha Splatterhead in this 1991-1992 arcade classic beat 'em up, and it's up to the three Combatribes to lay the hurt down! The SNES port is solid with decent music at times, satisfying hit detection and sound effects, and a plethora of moves that even games like Final Fight never had, such as the ability to jump on a knocked down enemy's back or repeatedly make them kiss the ground. Though it's not nearly as successful as Ninja Turtles Arcade, it's still a lot of fun for a quick 30-minute trip down memory lane.
In this video, I am joined by my lifelong best friend since before even pre-school. He is Bullova in the yellow, an I am Blitz in the red. We used the 30 Lives code just to stay casual for this, though we did beat this game legitimately in the past together. We played this using an emulator's Netplay functionality and Discord to voice chat. It's not perfect quality, but considering the distance apart and the limitations 2020 has presented, it gets the job done. I hope you enjoy this, and I hope and plan to do at least a handful more SNES games with Ryan that are better done co-op. The idea is to get more comfortable with another commentator and build up to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles in the future, if possible.
