Coco Park (ココ・デ・サーキット lit. Coco de Circuit in Japanese) is the fifth race course in Crash Team Racing and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. As its name suggests, it is Coco Bandicoot's home track. It appears in the Green Gem Cup (which includes Roo's Tubes, Polar Pass and Cortex Castle) and the Wumpa Cup.
Coco Park is a simple, wide-road track with no obstacles. This makes it a true test of speed and ability of the racers.
There are three boost pads, located at the entrance of the tunnel, before the final hill, and along the left edge of the track near the finish line. They are spaced out enough to be able to spot them easily enough during a race.
The course is surrounded by hills mostly covered in lines of red, yellow and white flowers. There are large, pink statues dotted along the sides along with a single, snow-covered mountain which can be driven through. There are various hedges cut along the side of the course differing in height. At the finish line, there is a stadium facing a pond and a mural of Coco on the opposite side of the track.
The track received an extensive overhaul in the Nitro-Fueled remake. An abundance of flower petals are spread all over the track, with fountains constantly spraying more in every direction. Various plants suspended by propellers can be seen floating above the track. There are four giant stone statues of Coco herself on the sides of the track. Behind the starting line on the sidelines, a renaissance fair similar to the Medieval stages of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped can be seen, with enemies from the level cheering. Many scientists can be seen cheering along the walkway of a winner's circle on the sideline. And lastly, a fairy tale-themed castle can be seen at the distance.
Coco Bandicoot is the tritagonist in the Crash Bandicoot series and is the highly intelligent, cute, and spirited younger sister of Crash Bandicoot. She often aids her big brother by using her computer hacking techniques to assist him, building gadgets ideal for the situation or even tagging along with him in his journeys, using self-taught martial arts to defend herself. She first appeared in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and her first appearance as a playable character was in Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Since then, she has appeared in every Crash game.
Just as her brother was, Coco was an ordinary Bandicoot until she was taken from the jungle and genetically enhanced by Doctor Nitrus Brio and Neo Cortex. It is unknown how she came to live with Crash afterward as she was not seen in the first game stating how Crash and Tawna were created.
Crash Team Racing is the fourth installment in the Crash Bandicoot series. The game's story focuses on the efforts of a ragtag team of characters in the Crash Bandicoot series, who must race against the egomaniacal Nitros Oxide to save their planet from destruction. In the game, players can take control of one of fifteen Crash Bandicoot series characters, though only eight are available at first. During the races, offensive and speed boosting power ups can be used to gain an advantage.
Crash Team Racing was praised by critics for its gameplay and graphics, though the audio was met with mixed opinions. An indirect sequel, Crash Nitro Kart, was released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox and N-Gage.
A remake of the game, titled Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, was announced at The Game Awards 2018 and was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on June 21, 2019.
