At the beginning of Fallout 4, if you stick to the main quest the first character you will meet after leaving Vault 111 is your old robot companion Codsworth. He’ll still be hanging out in Sanctuary Hills after 200 years and he’ll ask about your spouse and son. Normally during this conversation, you’ll tell him that Shaun is missing.

But what happens if you avoid meeting up with Codsworth until AFTER you’ve located the Institute and Shaun? In that case, you can actually tell Codsworth that you’ve found your son and have some unique dialogue with him.

Now this isn’t the most Earth shattering thing, but I really like that Bethesda included it. They easily could’ve left the dialogue unchanged. But it’s cool that they took the extra effort to anticipate that players might encounter Shaun before Codsworth. Maybe not on their first playthrough but a subsequent one.

There’s actually a surprising amount of moments like this in Fallout 4, if you know where to look for them.
