"Cold Fear PS2 Gameplay"! Another PS2 survival horror game I had a blast playing. Now, while a heavily flawed and rushed title, I still came away from Cold Fear with fun memories. This playthrough was all in one sitting on Twitch, 9 hours of myself and the chat room having a fun back and forth. With the lack of a map, I can say that if it weren't for the chat I may have ended up quitting Cold Fear towards the end of the game. It was passed midnight, I was beat and bed was calling, but we stuck through till the credits, and i'm glad we did. Fun experience.
Having said that; PS2's Cold Fear is filled with issues. While not the most broken horror game i've ever played, it was clearly released a few months too early. Some simple polish to the controls alone would have changed things for the better.
As mentioned in the playthrough; Cold Fear reminds me heavily of the classic movie The Thing, and that's an atmosphere I can't be happy enough to live through. Cool enemies, gory violence, scary locations.. all a guy can dream of in a horror game. Plus, lots of fun key collecting and backtracking, which I unironically love.
A budget game from Ubisoft at a time when they were releasing quality titles like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Cold Fear is giving the shaft on the developing front. Releasing a few months after the all time classic - Resident Evil 4, this games combat just doesn't match up. Still, if you're like me, and you long for whatever 3rd person horror game you can get your hands on these days when they hardly exist anymore; the Cold Fear for PS2 is worth trying out. Just be ready for your character to randomly aim at walls and the roof out of nowhere in the middle of a hence battle. Luckily, the game isn't very difficult, just confusing without a map.

Cold Fear is a 2005 survival horror third-person shooter video game developed by Darkworks and published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Microsoft Windows. It was Ubisoft's first horror game, and Darkworks' second game, after Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare in 2001. The game is centered on Tom Hansen, a member of the United States Coast Guard, who comes to the aid of a Russian whaler in the Bering Strait and finds a mysterious parasite has turned the crew into zombie-like creatures. Discovering the involvement of both the Russian mafia and the CIA, Hansen sets out to ensure the parasites don't reach land.
The game was first announced at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2004. To make the ship roll realistically, the developers had to write a completely new program (dubbed the "Darkwave editor") to allow them to control movement on both the vertical and the horizontal axes. They also used real physics to simulate the movement patterns of inanimate objects on the ship. Due to the random nature created by this, the player character required nine times the amount of animations usually seen in third-person games. Ultimately, the game contained more than nine hundred separate animations for all characters, allowing for over five thousand possible character movements. The game's soundtrack was composed by Tom Salta, with Marilyn Manson (dirtbag lameo) contributing a song from his 2003 album The Golden Age of Grotesque.
Cold Fear was met with mixed reviews, with many critics comparing it unfavorably to Resident Evil 4. Although critics were generally impressed with the environments and the opening scenes, they found the game too short and felt it failed to live up to its promising beginning. The game was a commercial failure; by February 2006, it had sold only 70,000 units across all three platforms in the United States.
