6Command & Conquer , also known as Command & Conquer Classic and Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn , is the first computer game in the Westwood Studios Command & Conquer series of the real-time strategy genre . The game takes place in the 1990s and is about the fight between two warring factions: Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the terrorist group Brotherhood of Nod .
The game is included in the collection Command & Conquer: The First Decade ( 2006 ). Since August 31, 2007 , in connection with the game's and series' twelfth anniversary, the game has been available for free download.
The game is known as Tiberian Dawn among C&C fans to avoid confusion between the game and the series as a whole, and to match it by the sequel, Tiberian Sun.
The game was released on June 5, 2020 in a new release along with Command & Conquer: Red Alert titled Command & Conquer Remastered Collection .
