Toki, developed by Al Dukes for the Commodore 64 and published by Ocean in 1991
“A fantastic, character arcade adventure into mystical lands of demons and deadly witchcraft, Toki is funny, fast …. It’s fantastic!”
Toki is an Arcade conversion and while I enjoyed the Amiga version, the C64 version not so much but its all good. So back in 1991 I didn't have my own Amiga so if I liked an Amiga game played at a friends and wanted it at home I had to seek out the C64 version. As far as I know, this was only released on a cartridge and at £15.99 they weren't cheap for the little pocket money I had at the time.
Initially when getting the cart home it didn't work! Just a blank screen. Opening the cartridge up there was an unsoldered pin on one of the corners. So I sorted that out and BOOM! The cart works fine.
The conversion actually plays well and mirrors the Amiga levels quite well. The graphics and music are well done. However, there are only 5 levels making the game relatively short and easy. It’s mainly the bosses that get you. -
