Gun.Smoke, C64 conversion by Lyndon & Associates and published by Capcom USA in 1987.

"Gun.Smoke™ by CAPCOM™, returns you and game star Billy Bob back to living in a small bustling mining town during the infamous gold rush era. Your skilful control manoeuvring and dexterity combine with fearless Billy Bob in a brave attempt to save the town and its people's wealth from cruel and ruthless gold-stealing bandits. You and Billy Bob challenge the notorious killing thieves in gun-slinging duels. Every time you and Billy Bob open fire and successfully have a direct hit of a barrel you release hidden fire-power — giving Billy Bob extra quick-acting ammunition to drive the merciless bandits out of town. Big hits means big saves — you and Billy Bob save the town folks' gold and save the town, maintaining law and order. With you at the controls, you determine the destiny of Billy Bob and the gold mining town and its people."

Not much to say about this one. It's not a great game even by 1987 C64 standards. It's got that same poor use of c64 colour and sound of other US arcade to c64 conversions.

In the game, you simply scroll up the screen shooting anything that appears on the screen. Collect powerups for speed/defence and kill the end of level bad guy before moving on to the next level. That's an over simplification as the game can be quite difficult due to very poor hit detection. Enemies don't drop when you think they should and the same applies when you belive they should have hit you, only to then realise you are still alive and die when you think you have moved to a safe spot. It can be quite annoying. I played on Advance difficulty which wasn't a great idea as it just made the game harder by keeping the screen filled with bullets.

The game has a weird firing mechanic. You can press fire to shoot forwards, but you automatically shoot when moving left or right. When walking backwards the direction is flipped. When fighting bosses, it seems best to try and get them in a sideways crossfire instead of trying to take them head on. The kill shot will often land as you pull away to run to safety. After completing all levels, the game loops back round to level one. I lose remaining lives here and the game returns to the title screen, no highscore table.

Note: I played the Easyflash version my Master in ntsc mode to match the original game. I cant be sure that was the right approach though as it may have been patched for pal and the reason for the gfx glitch when starting from a new life.
