And after finding some 2114 chips that I took out of a Vic-20 that smoked, I did find that one of the original integrated circuits as bad...and now the machine is up and running and life is good!
I need to do some more testing now...
Screen RAM chips are quite something...they can fail and fill the screen with garbage...or there can be just one character out of place...it just depends on how they have been corrupted, damaged, etc...here is a screen shot of how this commodore PET looks with at least one bad screen RAM integrated circuit...
