Compromised (Finale) - Project Zomboid - Part 6
Sixth and final episode of Project Zomboid. Time to learn the fate of Billy the lewd singer.
Apologies this series has been short and probably hasn't scratched the depths of what this game has to offer. Truth be told I am not really enjoying playing it and I haven't got enough time to record it (and it's going to get harder to find time). I have also played a chunk off camera to try and improve faster, but I still don't feel like I am progressing. So I have taken the decision to bite the bullet and remove PZ and also my Wednesday and Friday 11 pm (BST) slots for now. I can see why this game is popular for some people, but I have found it very frustrating to be honest. My biggest gripes are around the difficulty especially associated with 'realism' in the game, which whilst neat isn't really what I am after for in a game. OK it's cool that you have to sterilize water to make a sterile bandage to prevent infections, or jumping through a broken window cuts you up real good and you can change TV stations etc... but then there are some things I feel like have been made unnecessarily annoying. A big one is melee combat. I have had situations where I have beat up on a zombie for what feels like minutes and they don't go down. IRL if you cracked a human head with a crowbar, you'd do some pretty major dmg. Similarly, why do I need carpentry skills to take apart a chair to use as barricades. Any old Joe or Joette could break some furniture down and hammer nails through wood to make a barricade. Also, bandages dirty unrealistically fast. Admittedly, I have never really tried to leave them dirtied for long, but knowing this game I imagine it leads to infection then faster death. It feels like certain 'realistic' things have been cherry picked to make the game more frustrating. But mainly, I don't think I can be bothered to put time and effort into a campaign to just be perma-killed by a zombie that I may have missed hiding in the loo or something. There are many things in the game I like, the character customization is very sleek and I like the idea of creating personas for these characters. It's also not the survivor archetype that I dislike; it's a genre I generally enjoy, but this just hasn't resonated with me. I think overall, the barrier to entry for me is too high for the time for what I am willing to put in.
Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed the series up until now. Sorry for those that were enjoying it and supporting it. This was a well watched series for a channel of my size, so it wasn't an easy decision to end it here. I just didn't want it to become a chore to play it and honestly it was getting to be that.
