This game is very clearly primarily influenced by Silent Hill. Not a bad thing, but probably could have been a bit more coy about it.

Immediately, a few things stuck out as pretty sloppy to me. If you're going to go with a low-resolution style, pick a font that works at low resolutions. It pretty clearly looks like they're using Arial, and there are times where the text can be fairly difficult to read. Similarly, the notes were a bear to read. I don't know if there was a button that would spit it out in a more legible manner, but I didn't find it.

By the same token, the textures with text on them should not have had texture filtering enabled on them. It makes them harder to read but also distracts from the aesthetic.

Additionally, the pretty severe noise effect made it almost impossible to tell what was going on. While I understand that that's an artistic choice to hide the creatures, it ends up hiding important information too, like the scene where they have the person falling to the ground, which was not clear at all to me.

Also, that clearly wasn't the proportions of a person. It looked more like a teddy bear.

I know it sounds like I'm pretty down on this game, but that's because I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit, and there's just a few things that could be done to put it over the top. The atmosphere so far is excellent, and there are a few places where I was entirely sure that they'd put a jump scare, but them pulled back and didn't do the cheap and easy tactic. The bit with the video tape was especially clever, and was a case where the expectation (and lack of) a jump scare is more effective than actually having one.
