Conflict between Disney Lucasfilm and Fans is KILLING Star Wars
405I’ve noticed a lot of people complaining about this moment in Kenobi where Obi-Wan runs away from Darth Vader. I’ve even heard people go so far as to compare this to Jake Skywalker, ie Luke Skywalker’s treatment in the Last Jedi. After thinking about this I was certainly able to notice some of the similarities, and can absolutely understand why you might hold such a view. I was tempted myself to jump on this train, so I puzzled over this for quite a while and I think that this conclusion misses the point. If you were at all unhappy with Obi-Wan’s treatment in the Kenobi series, then I would ask you to follow with me in this short video and see if I can’t maybe present some evidence that might help you see things differently.
So, first let’s address the obvious: Jake Skywlaker. Luke in ther Last Jedi was just absolutely unforgivable for a number of reasons. First, they are basically saying that this is Luke at the end of his life. That he spends his last days as a failure hermit loser hiding from his problems. Second is that Luke has no meaningful redemption within that film. His battle with Kylo Ren was cool, but ultimately meaningless. Third is that Luke is never given a believable reason to dip out.
