If you're using Ubuntu or Deepin Linux and want to connect to a VPN for added privacy or access to restricted content, this video shows you how to set it up easily using the system's built-in network settings. Whether you’re a beginner or already familiar with Linux, this tutorial will help you configure OpenVPN or other common VPN types using a downloaded configuration file from your VPN provider.

To begin, open the Settings app on your Ubuntu or Deepin Linux system and navigate to the Network tab. In this section, you'll find the VPN area where connections can be added and managed. Click on the "+" (plus) button to start creating a new VPN profile. A pop-up window will appear with several options such as "OpenVPN" or "Import from file."

In most cases, VPN providers like NordVPN, ProtonVPN, ExpressVPN, or others offer configuration files (usually in `.ovpn` format) that can be downloaded from your user dashboard. If you're unsure where to find these files, check your provider's website, your confirmation email, or reach out to their support team. Along with the config file, make sure to note your VPN username and password—they’re often available in the same download area.

Select "Import from file" in the VPN setup menu, choose the `.ovpn` file you downloaded, and then input your username and password in the appropriate fields. After filling in the required authentication details, click the green Add button to save the VPN connection.

Once the VPN has been added, you can activate it by going back to the VPN settings page and toggling the switch, or use the system tray/network menu to quickly turn it on or off. If you ever need to make changes—such as switching servers or adjusting DNS—click the gear icon next to the VPN profile for more advanced configuration options.
