Waku Waku 7 is not the seventh entry in the Waku Waku fighting game series it is in fact the first and only entry in the series, the seven in the title instead referring to the total number of playable fighters and the seven Waku Waku balls and the curse to obtain all seven.

Developed by veteran development studio Sun Corporation, Waku Waku 7 released on the Neo Geo in 1996 in Japan, with a Sega Saturn release of the game coming in the following year.

It would not be until 2017 when the game would see a release outside of Japan on the Switch, a worldwide Xbox One release of the game would follow in 2018 as well.
