Console Fighting Games of 2003 - Black & Bruised
Black & Bruised is a fighting game based on boxing, released on the PlayStation 2 and GameCube in 2003 in the US, Canada, and across Europe.
Rather than going for the more realistic look that most boxing games go for, Black & Bruised opts for a cartoonish look for its boxing rings and fighters, of which 18 are on offer.
Black & Bruised was developed by the short-lived studio Digital Fiction (01/07) and is one of only four games developed by the studio, all of which were boxing-themed.
A good number of game modes are on offer in Black & Bruised: the usual one-player and two-player fight modes, a tournament mode, and Boxer’s Life, which offers a brief story segment about one of the fighters culminating in a fight. If successful, the next chapter is unlocked. A survival mode is also available, as well as a training mode.
