Contra Force (アークハウンド, Āku Haundo, 'Arc Hound') is a run and gun game developed and published by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It originally released in
North America in September of 1992.

Contra Force is considered the black sheep of the series. Mostly because the game's plot and setting are unrelated to both previous and succeeding entries, as the villains in the game are human terrorists instead of an alien menace.

It makes snese when you consider that the game was originally planned to be a different game altogether under the title Arc Hound (アークハウンド, Āku Haundo), with no ties to the Contra series, but was cancelled in Japan and repurposed into a Contra game in the west due to the series popularity.

Surprisingly even though it is considered a Contra game, the subsequential Contra Anniversary Collection omits it from the compilation.

The games soundtrack was composed by Kenichi Matsubara, and Tomoya Tomita.
