The Daily Telegraph's Executive Foreign Editor has told BFBS that Iran would put its own economy at risk if it closes the Strait of Hormuz, in response to an EU embargo on Iranian oil exports. Con Coughlin believes a blockade would backfire, as Iran relies on the waterway for the transportation of oil. However, he said Iran could still cause disruption to warships in the Strait, by deploying fast boats and rocket-propelled grenades.
