Speaking exclusively to ET NOW on the GST Council's decision to levy 28 percent GST on online gaming, casinos and horse racing, Union Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra on Wednesday said 28 percent tax is not a new thing where gambling and betting is involved.
The GST Council, the all-powerful Constitutional body, on Tuesday proposed 28 percent GST at full face value for online gaming, casinos and horse racing. The decision has jolted the USD 1.5 billion industry, with shares of casino operator Delta Corp and other online gaming firms taking massive hit in Wednesday trade.
On being asked about the GST Council's decision impact on the industry, the revenue secretary said the impact will be not that huge as being thought by the gaming companies. "People who wish to play will continue to play," he added. Watch the complete video now to know more.
