Playing Countdown to Meltdown on the C64 for the first time in *decades*
Used to play this one a fair bit, though I never got anywhere near completing it.

Turns out it was actually a re-skinned/retitled/rerelease of Countdown to shutdown by Thorn EMI Computer Software, originally published by Creative Sparks in 1984. Meltdown sounds FAR more dramatic than shutdown, doesn't it? Shutdown sounds like everything been controlled safely, whereas, well, meltdown is exactly what you DON'T want to happen, isn't it.
I wonder why Mastertronic chose to rename it that when they released it in 1986, the same year as the Chernobyl nuclear power station disaster - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster
What, me? Cynical?
What with stuff like this and the near-constant threat of Mutally-assured nuclear distruction (there's the MAD reference again...) at the time I'm always surprised when people bang on about windfarms or hydroelectrics spoiling the environment, like they've forgotten how much Welsh livestock was irradiated by fallout from Chernobyl, over 1500 miles away...
Personally, I'd rather windmills all over the place 'spoiling' my view than a nuclear power station lurking out of sight just beyond the horizon (**Cough! Cough!** Hinkley point C **Cough! Cough!**) but then, I suppose I'm odd like that.

Some people have said I should set up a tip jar, to help with cost of repairs and the like. As I can't really offer anything other than thanks I don't feel Patreon is particularly suitable, so I've set up this - https://ko-fi.com/gigerpunk
Absolutely no obligation, I'm not doing any content just for people who pay and not doing adverts of any kind, it's just there for those who'd like to help out occasionally (in this case, to get an Atari 400 up and running)
