The follow-up to Counter-Strike, with another interesting development history. Originally the game was developed by Rogue Entertainment (known for Quake: Dissolution of Eternity and Quake II: Ground Zero and Quake II 64), who created a Half-Life-like singleplayer game. After the producer of the game left the studio, Valve removed Condition Zero from their hands and passed development on Gearbox Software. Gearbox started over from scratch instead of continuing from what Rogue made, and so many higher-quality graphical content was made. There were also new weapons. Eventually, Gearbox withdrew from development, and Ritual Entertainment and Valve reached an agreement, and development passed on to Ritual Entertainment. The game concept was redesigned from scratch, but a lot of Gearbox content was reused. The game would be a linear shooter that came with 20 missions that utilized modified AI from Half-Life, and so the game would be released as Deleted Scenes. Meanwhile, someone from Turtle Rock Studios was creating a multiplayer bot AI, as Ritual was finishing up their project. As the bot AI was more well-received by the community, the development of Condition Zero was handed over to Turtle Rock Studios. This iteration was designed to demonstrate the bot's capabilities. This game has a singleplayer mode called "Tour of Duty", which is merely just the multiplayer game with bots and missions. Since I already have completed all the easy missions, I see no reason to continue playing that mode. Proper multiplayer with bots really is the way to go.

Minh Le was never directly involved in Condition Zero's development. He was working on his own project, titled "Counter-Strike 2". However, this sequel was indefinitely put on hold and Le left Valve in 2006. The Counter-Strike 2 we have today is completely unrelated to Gooseman's project.
