Original description (2013 reviewed): ...eh. I guess I should "remake" those annotations, they are the shittiest thing ever. However, it is not a bug, it's some sort of "god mode" that makes Crash invincible to everything except the boulder and, of course, falling into a pit. It was put into the game by the developer "to make it easier", in fact, it is enabled after your first "game over" screen. Enjoy.
