At first, after Crash rescues Cortex from the miners, he wants to steal the Power Crystal from him, but Cortex tells Crash that he [Cortex] needs to be thrown over an impassable gap in order for them to be able to proceed, and it seems that that sparks up an alliance with them. After their escape from the crystal caverns, they meet up with two aliens named the Evil Twins, and they tell Crash and Cortex that they're planning to destroy their island home, enslave Crash, and steal Cortex's brain. Before they can actually start to put an end to the Evil Twins' plot, Crash needs to clear a path for Cortex from the killer bees that he's run into.
