Creating a Mac OS X 10.11 'El Capitan' USB Install Stick for clean or upgrade installs
How to create a USB install stick with Mac OS X 10.11 'El Capitan' for updating your Apple MacBook, iMac or Mac Pro to the latest release of the operating system.
This is perfect for carrying out clean or upgrade installs without the need for internet access.
To do this you will need:
A system running OS X 10.6.8 or later
OS X 10.11 downloaded from the App Store
A 8GB or larger USB stick
Erase the USB stick using Disk Utility, ensuring the partition is renamed to Untitled and the partition scheme is GUID.
Open Terminal and use the command "sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction"
Once created plug in the USB stick and turn on the system whilst holding down the ALT key, then choose to boot from the USB stick.
