With Mario Kart World failing to set the world on fire for a lot of players, all eyes are on Sonic Racing CrossWorlds to impress with its crossworlds racing mechanic and countless customisation options.
I said it after my original preview for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, and I’ll say it again now after another recent hands-on session: Mario Kart World needs to watch its back. Not only is CrossWorlds easily one of the best-looking, best-handling entries into the longstanding kart franchise, it’s also one of the most generous in terms of the way it lets you race and all the various characters – both in and outside the Sonic universe – you get to do it with.
More importantly, unlike Mario Kart World’s interconnected tracks, this game’s core CrossWorlds mechanic isn’t in any way disruptive, rendering each time you take to the track a pure joy ride that’s equal parts unpredictable yet thrilling.
