Creatures Demo, Commodore 64 playthrough
4Hello and welcome to a very short playthrough of Creatures by Thalamus. Could have been a lot quicker if I had remembered how to do the torture room!
Anyway, this is perhaps one of the first, single best demos on the C64, I reckon I must have loaded this up hundreds of times just to play and listen, to this graphically gorgeous demo, with a stomping happy tune and the perfect balance of puzzle to platforming action.
The full game was released in 1990, I'm not sure if the demo tape was released in the same year, but such a good game for the time.....well, kinda. I didn't really care much for the platforming parts, while nice looking, I felt they require far too much precision at times and weren't really that consistent. But as for the Torture rooms, that's where it really shone. And this is where Creatures two excels in almost every department, a lovely looking game for the C64, yet on the Amiga, it didn't feel as polished and somehow played worse.
One thing I did notice though, in the end credits there was a mention of a Spectrum and Amstrad version, sadly this was never released. Sad really, as I suspect this could have looked even more colourful on the Amstrad.
