Creeper (MIDI)
22This may be the silliest and/or cheesiest one I’ve done so far. The goal was to make something with a spooky kind of feel in a similar vain to Mark Klem’s “Scary 2” from Memento Mori. The end result turned out quite differently than that track, but I think it still retains the vibe I was going for. Fun fact: when my sister was visiting a few weeks ago, I played the first 30 seconds of this for her before it was all finished, and she said, "What in the world is that Scooby-Doo shit?" That's when I knew I was doing something right. :D I will say though, I did have a tougher time trying to get a good mix for each instrument's volume. I still feel like the keyboard solo in the second half is a little quiet, but it's not bad. In the context of a Doom map, the first half of this piece is meant to invoke paranoia, as if the player knows they're being stalked by an enemy (or many enemies) lurking in the walls of a haunted house. The second half kicks in after the monsters reveal themselves and chase the player throughout the house. At least, that's what I imagined. Maybe you have a different take on it!
