Part 2 of Crossy Roads Gameplay Walkthrough - Piffle (iOS, Android)
Crossy Road's goal is to travel an unending highway or sequence of highways while avoiding obstacles as much as possible without dying. The player takes on the role of a chosen character and must swipe the screen in the appropriate direction to move the character horizontally. The game consists of an unending sequence of obstacles, such as rivers, vehicles, and trains, that must be navigated along a predetermined path. To cross these obstacles without dying, the player must time his moves perfectly. For example, if the player is crossing a river, he or she must use floating logs to avoid falling into the water. A bald eagle will snatch the character if the player takes too long crossing an obstacle or remains idle, resulting in the game's conclusion. Every forward movement will score one point, with a sound effect sounding out every fifty points. Additionally, there are coins scattered throughout the area that can be used to unlock new characters.
Crossy Road is a video game that was released on November 20, 2014. Hipster Whale created and published it, with the game's name and concept based on the famous joke "Why did the chicken cross the road?" "Endless Frogger" is how the game has been described.
The game was a nominee for the Australian Game Developer Awards' Game of the Year Award in 2014. The game garnered generally positive reviews, with Metacritic awarding it an 88, TouchArcade giving it 5/5 stars, BigBoomBoom.com offering it 5/5 ratings, Gamezebo Gaming awarding it 4.5/5 stars, and Apple N' Apps awarding it a 4/5 overall score. The game was termed "amazing" by Polygon and compared to an updated version of Frogger by TIME, who described it as a blend of Frogger and Flappy Bird. Crossy Road was named one of the winners of the 2015 Apple Design Awards during the 2015 Apple WWDC developer conference.
