Crucible Game First Impressions Review - A Mixed Bag
In this video, I share my initial impressions of playing the game CRUCIBLE by Relentless Studios, published by Amazon Games
Disclaimer: I played the game for several hours. This is NOT a full review of the game, just my first impressions after playing a few hours of it. Some of my opinions my change after I play the game longer.
I feel some of the game modes are not "structured" properly for team-based gameplay. Games like Overwatch are carefully designed for team-based gameplay. Crucible has a map that fits Battle Royale games with character mechanics and game modes (except Alpha Hunters) that feels disconnected from the map design itself.
That leads to many random encounters and teammates just spread out on the map. Even if they want to join, it takes so much time as the map is large and the respawn time is relatively long as well. You find yourself running to your teammates to help in a team fight, only to find them eliminated. Some characters have long-range shooting capability or are tankier, others not, which leads to awkward encounters considering the size of the map.
It's a mishmash, a mixture of gameplay elements and map design from different game modes. It's just that this game doesn't want what it wants to be, even with its different game modes that play on the same map.
It feels like it was designed from up to the ground rather than from the ground up. It's not that I don't have good moments, but I can easily feel that this game suffers from many issues that impact the fun.
Alpha Hunters (duos) is the only mode that felt fun for me to play, but because it's like Battle Royale in a way, so it fits the large map, the boundary size is reduced over time like other BR games, and the PvE mixed well as you are not in a rush to get to a certain point but to survive.
Crucible is a free-to-play game, available via Steam and I do recommend checking it out.
