► Crusader Kings 3 – The Medieval Map Previewed – Dev Diary #2 Reaction: We look at the new map screenshots and the details of the new map mechanics. What will stay the same and what will be refined, or changed? There's a lot going on beyond the surface. Three zoom stages with different purposes, baronies or 'barony slots' having their own spatial representation: Borders inside of counties. Terrain, and its looks.

The increased spatial representation will increase immersion and strategic options in case of a war – it looks promising. Will the map modes be reduced? Some will be kept, some probably not. Another change they will be making is towards the impassable terrain: There will be more of it and possibly it also has a better representation on the map. Mountains, deserts, these kinds of terrain are among the impenetrables and they will – by being much more frequent than in the previous installments – create interesting bottlenecks for troop movements.

Increased clarity, and seeing where the rivers are, that is another one of the big goals for the map. For now, it looks satisfyingly more beautiful, but the details are waiting for us. Let's have a... look! :-)

Crusader Kings 2 is and Crusader Kings 3 will be a Historical Grand Strategy Game with a lot of Roleplay and roleplaying opportunites for the player. The game has strategic depth in army control and realm management. You impersonate the current ruler of your dynasty and can manage most of his actions as well, giving rise to a multitude of entertaining and fun situations resulting from the good and not so good traits, perks and attributes of your ruler and the other characters in the game world.
