Part 2 of the summary videos I make from the CK3 mega campaign stream. This part was hard to make. It was set in an era with not a lot of growth, a lack of stability, and invasions lasting for centuries. This was because I converted too early from Imperator: Rome to CK3, making it hard to change laws for stable inheritance or to revoke titles. The Norse faith was also larger than in the default game, with less disparity in development, causing the invasions to be brutal. After the Massilian Republic fell, the constant conflict was fun to play but hard to turn into a rise and fall storyline.

Side note:
I called it the Four Short Kings era, also the interregnum. There were kings, but it felt like they had no power because the land was in constant civil war.

_______

Historical note:
to show that the Franks did not see their land as split in the way we often assume today.

S. MacLean, Kingship and Politics in the Late Ninth Century, Cambridge University Press, 2003, explains in chapters 2 and 4 how the Carolingian realm was managed and why certain modern assumptions are misleading. He discusses how the Carolingians ruled and maintained authority until their decline, and how primary sources were later interpreted by 18th and 19th century historians. His analysis helps to make clear what the sources actually suggest, especially where they include biblical references or reflect political bias. (ofc u boy Fish is not a historian so feel free to read it and interpret it yourself)
