I Think 16:9 seems more appropriate.
Pros using 4:3 because they played CS 1.6 in 4:3

4:3 is only for better fps and bigger models.
The thing is I can't see anything with 4:3 and it is boring
but if you look at the 16:9

Bigger Fov
Better Viewmodel
Better Crosshairs

But, for competitive I always use 4:3 because of the bigger player models.
