Linux Gaming | CSGO2 Performance & Stability - February 2024

NOTES: The lag you perceive during the video is not because of bad encoding, but because the game was actually LAGGING. The constant stuttering you see during gameplay here is what I actually experienced while playing and it is unrelated to the recording in process, nor the shader compilation which was done before starting the ingame map. You are actually SEEING the stuttering I am referring to on the Bug report at:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/3642

The stuttering happens constantly, on the Main Menu, ingame, map changing, etc.. It also happens from the resolutions I have tested on a 4090, from 1024x768 and low graphics settings, to full 4K and full graphics settings. I tested all combinations of setting in 8 different resolutions.

Do note that shader compilation, although suffers from amnesia every once in a while and on a single day you could be running the shader compilation about 10 times, is also not the problem. As seen on the video, while actually playing, the shader compilation had finished already, but even if I had closed the game and open it again, the stuttering will still be there.

You can also see the performance of the CPU so it is also not related to a CPU bound scenario, nor a GPU bound one. There is more than enough RAM for the game, more than enough CPU and more than enough GPU. The storage device is an NVMe, so the storage is not a bottleneck either.

The internet speed is a Gigalan (eg: 1 Gbps).

This video is, hopefully, to help the developers address the issue that I am pretty sure is affecting many, on both, Linux and Windows.
