Up next is Cala Maria. I got a papercraft of her at a fast-food joint so figured it was her time to go!

Yeah, it's hard, but much of this game is pattern recognition and reaction. Kinda like Punch-Out! So it's more than doable! I'll be leaving hints and my strategies down below in each video!


Strategy
------

The one thing I change in strategy over time was to just use the Chomp Missiles when it comes to specials and not worry about the bomb. You can consistently get three chomps outta each missile and I believe that does a ton of damage.


1st Form
***
Cala Maria will summon something then attack you with something herself giving you a fun mix to contend with! This is where you need to get your parries (hitting pink thingies) and you are entirely at her mercy when it comes to this. It is entirely possible for her not to summon the pufferfish at all which will doom you to failure.


Summons:

Sea-Horse - The most annoying. Just be sure to lead it around laterally so you can bypass the waterspout and get some vertical dodges in when necessary.

Turtle-Dood - The most dangerous. He'll toss out sea-mines that'll explode into a projectile mess at the top of the screen! Remember the rule of thumb about bullet-dodging? The further away you are, the bigger the gaps will be! So stay low!

Pufferfish - You WANT these! I don't even bother with bombs and just thread through the holes. PARRY THE PINK ONES! Depending on Cala Maria's attack weapon this may be very easy or very hard. Try to get at least two!


Weapons:

Red Fish - Cala Maria shoots out a spread shot with this fishy! The pink pellets you can parry are super randomized and often at too great a distance up or down to be safe! Don't chase those down, just hope she fires at least one straight at you! ('cause this'll likely be your third parry!)

Yellow Fish - This fishy shoots out electrified boomerang dolphins? Loop-de-looping is your friend!

Phantom-Pirate-Projectiles! - If you stay back at the edge of the screen, a minor "dodge" up or down just as they start moving should suffice. They move FAST and can be a problem if her summon messes with you!


2nd Form

So, yeah. In my video I only managed to get one pink parry in the first form. That's no good! Fortunately you have a last ditch chance with the electric eels that shoot a ton of bullets at you. I got lucky and a couple pinks were easy to reach for me!

I read that you can prevent yourself from being paralyzed from her gaze if you don't move, but that was after the fact. GENERALLY I'll shoot a couple eels in front and then focus on Cala Maria and try to line myself up so if I'm frozen I still survive. You can also bring a giant super bomb here to interrupt her second paralyzing gaze shot, or rather, render yourself invincible during it.


3rd Form

So, now Cala Maria is feeling a little light-headed and will lead you through a dangerous cavern. Don't touch the walls! They hurt! You can go a little into the red, though.

Problem is now she shoots out a shot that'll paralyze you no matter what if it touches you. You can BARELY dodge it up top or bottom sometimes, but that runs the risk of crashing into the wall! I recommend just trying to get past each green bubble as early as possible and always line yourself up to pass those spiked columns. That way if you are frozen you'll be fine! Truly! Probably! Just be careful when mashing yourself outta your stone form lest you ram yourself wall-ways.


So yeah. Lotsa chomping involved, but this fight is doable! The eels can be better managed with a super bomb, I think, but keeping back and a slight culling can make getting through shots even when frozen not so bad. Best of luck to ya!
