(CURRENT WR) Card Fighters Clash: Capcom Version Speedrun in 1:16:41
The awful weather conditions in Texas inspired me to give this run another look. After a scrimmage playthrough ended with a personal best of 72 minutes game time, I figured it was time to do an official submission under proper speedrunning rules. (Namely, using the Livesplit tool so I could have a timer.)
I wish I could say what I did to improve my previous runs. My assumption is a much faster pace of play and a further willingness to take a lot of damage. The latter is a huge deal, because it enables us to force the AI to make many bad ill-fated attacks, so we can stay on the offensive without the need of costly trades or unite attacks.
Luck played a role as well, since the semi-finals went incredibly well and presented me with rare opportunities to be aggressive despite the high power level of the opponent's decks. (The match versus Kei at 1:04:44 was absurd!) However that was definitely balanced out by the ~5 minutes we lost from the random loss in the midgame.
This is a high variance speedrun, so it can be difficult to gauge what an ideal time would be. I think someone who runs well and is similarly skilled as me should be able to break the 1:10 mark with a few dozen attempts with adequate luck. I suspect a highly skilled player with enough luck can actually break the 1 hour mark. Good luck to anyone aiming to break that threshold! Maybe someone can break the RNG and win some extra coinflips! ;)
