What must be a nostalgia trip for anyone who has ever been to Disneyland... We take a trip into one of the most detailed campaigns ever made...
(I have never been to disneyland... that is all I have to say here...)
Pros
+Very well made
+Some of the most detailed environments I have ever seen in a campaign
+So many unnecessary, yet amusing interactibles
+Some unique events
+Balanced and fun finale
Cons
-May be a tad too easy for some people
-Not as much work into the gameplay as it did the visuals...
-Not very "apocalyptic"... (not counted against score)
Final Verdict
95/100
This was an excellent map... So many things to see... so many thing to do... I personally have never been to Disneyland, but this was well made enough to give me the experience... and while this is wonderful... this is also it's greatest downfall...
Don't get me wrong... this is am excellent map... but it is obvious that more work was put into the visuals and accuracy, rather than the gameplay... At times, it can be boring... with barely any infected spawning... or just not much going in general...
I have a theory about design in this game that I feel this campaign shows very well...
In L4D and L4D2... it is important to have the environment tell a story... what the story is depends on what the author wants to tell... in most campaigns... the story is very simple... panic, despair, OMG ZOMBIES, etc... it is a very common one, but it is one that many people want to hear time and time again... having a room with shattered furniture and a few dead bodies tell more of a story than most people would think... Now... when you have a "clean" environment... you have to tell a different story by other means... and you can no longer just rely on a dead body here and there... Questionable ethics pulls this off very well through story by level design...
This campaign... what story does it tell?... Other than "Hey look, it's Disneyland!"... it really doesn't tell one... it is so clean and so untouched... that it feels almost empty... I know it is not very clear... but it is still something I am trying to develop... point being... this feels more like a model, and not a playable environment...
Minor gripes aside... still and enjoyable and well made campaign...
