--the "gateway game" that got me into the FGC (Shoryuken)
--original XBOX Live gamertag (March 2004 - May 2006), brief hiatus from XBOX Live until the release of "Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix" (October 2008)
--online warrior from outside the Toronto area with older arcade roots, coming from an arcade that the local scene (est. 2001) never heard about (RIP Wizard's Castle 1990-1996)
--one of few players in GTA/Toronto that joined the scene after "EVO Moment #37" (January 2005), slowly transitioning from "XBOX Live warrior" to "local scene regular"
--one of few players in GTA/Toronto who had the original XBOX and an active XBOX Live subscription
--had to play online as the arcade with constant scene activity (Orbit Entertainment Centre) was 1 hour drive (or 3 hours commute), and house casuals in your own region are "private invite only"
--first main FG game I wanted to learn, but you're starting off in the 'inferior version' of the game nobody cares about, or has access to, perfect example of both "learning a game and entering a scene ass-backwards"
--any type of online play (Kaillera, XBOX Live) was not considered 'accepted' back then
--selective matches chosen due to various reasons, nearly 20+ matches cut out (144p, extreme video pixelation, desynched/zero game audio, bad match quality, copyright music, etc...)
--custom music, custom names, and color edits were a thing because everyone did it (which is fine and cool), but the one thing you NEVER would do is play EX-GROOVE, that shit is not even allowed in tournament play, and being an EX-GROOVE regular would make you look like a 'casual scumbag'
--all matches played on the XBOX S-pad, I didn't get my first arcade stick until mid-2006, nearest arcade (The Games Skybox) was on Happ parts, whereas the constant arcade (Orbit Entertainment Centre) was on Sanwa parts before it became the global standard
--all matches recorded on VHS, then transferred via TV Tuner (RF cable), with webcam acting as the audio source (notice in most matches you can hear a fan/echo in the background?)
