Extermination's my game!!
Cyber Core is a really nice game to play, except Stage 8. I love it!
To be frank, there is not much that really stands out when you see Cyber Core, really, except it's a Dragon Spirit clone with awesome bugs. But it's a game that you will find really pleasant when you play it. Except Stage 8. It does a great job at being a well-paced game with good amount of leniency and tightness. until Stage 8.
So what can you do in Cyber Core? You can shoot, ground bomb and change speed. You start with the 0 form and you'll transform into different bug forms when you pick up power ups with different icons. As you collect more of the same colored power ups you will get stronger shot unique to the color and... bigger body... This is exactly Dragon Spirit!!!
The transformation forms are the highlight. When you, Rad Ralph, become an even bigger bug it feels so awesome! Look at this giant monster! But in execution, it's jank. There is stage design reason for this but for example when you're at Lv. 3 Red shot form then you grab any other color, you will be reverted back to Lv. 1 and you have to rebuild your power level all, over, again. That sucks! The caveat is with some bosses the Red shot at max power is useless, so if that's a way to beat the bosses without losing any shield to power down, that's unintuitive, but I'll take it.
When you take a hit you power down, but you won't if you still have shields. You'll truly lose a life when you get hit in Lv. 0 form, so it's a lenient game in terms of making mistakes. But compared to most console shooters this game is pretty fast paced, so it won't go easy on you! Also when you die you restart at a checkpoint. Recovery isn't that difficult so overall it's fair. Until you reach Stage 8. I'll explain the horror in the commentary.
When you play it, even after experiencing Stage 8, you'll find the game hard to hate.
